IPL 2023:
Arjun Tendulkar, son of famous cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, made his IPL debut against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. Arjun Tendulkar bowled two overs and conceded 17 runs. Shahrukh Khan’s KKR were defeated by Mumbai Indians by five wickets. The game at the Wankhede Stadium was unique in that Nita Ambani refused to allow anyone to enter the stadium to watch the game so that 19,000 of her VIP guests could attend the show. After the game, Sachin wrote a touching message to his son on social media urging him to respect the game of cricket.
With a century from Venkatesh Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a total of 185-6 in their opening innings. Iyer scored 104 off 51 balls. Back in 2008, Brendon McCullum became the first KKR player to score a century in IPL with a score of 158 during the first season of the competition.
However, thanks to Ishan Kishan’s 25-ball 58, Mumbai Indians achieved their target in 17.4 overs.
19,000 poor girls participated in the game after receiving a special invitation from Nita Ambani. As a result, regular fans were unable to get tickets for this game. Explaining the motive behind this initiative, Neeta told her players, “Rohit (Sharma) told about the special game we are playing next. I think most of the players know that we have education and sports for all, we support many NGOs for the education of their children.
“So this time we have it really special. Only poor girls are coming here. So we are going to play for these girls because in women’s cricket I realized how and what difficulties girls face.
The stadium was packed with female Indian cricket players, including Harmanpreet Kaur, who had come to watch the game.
In other news, father Sachin got emotional when Arjun finally made his IPL debut after much anticipation. On the same occasion, Sachin did a heart touching post on social media for his son.
Sachin wrote:
“Arjun, today you have taken another important step in your journey as a cricketer. As your father, who loves you and is passionate about sports, I know you will continue to give sports the respect it deserves and sports will love you back. You have worked very hard to reach here and I am sure you will continue to do so. This is the beginning of a beautiful journey. All the best,” wrote Sachin.
Sachin’s daughter Sara replied to her father’s post with several black heart emojis.
Several former cricketers including Sourav Ganguly and Pragyan Ojha wished Sachin on such an important day.
