DRS: Veteran cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni is not only known for his batting and leadership. Also excellent as a wicketkeeper, Dhoni is adept at implementing DRS. The Dhoni Review System was created because of Dhoni’s accuracy in taking DRS. But Dhoni’s review strategy against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur proved ineffective. In the midst of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blistering batting, Dhoni made a mistake which was unusual for him.
Big mistake in taking DRS
Dhoni took the review (DRS) during the match against Rajasthan Royals and it was wrong. The incident took place in the fourth over of Rajasthan’s innings when Jaiswal tried to sweep a delivery from Mahish Teekshana. But the ball hit the pad instead of the bat. After an appeal, the umpire declared Jaiswal not out and Dhoni requested an immediate decision.
Jaiswal put pressure on Mahi
Usually, if Dhoni calls DRS so early, the batsman gets out. But in this case something else happened. As soon as the ball hit the leg stump of Yashasvi Jaiswal, he was declared not out. Although the exact circumstances of Dhoni’s mistake are unknown, Jaiswal’s flamboyant batting may have contributed.
As soon as Jaiswal reached the crease, he sent sharp strokes against Chennai (CSK). This batsman completed his fifty (50) runs in just 26 balls by hitting three fours in his first over. Jaiswal’s hitting ruined the line-length of the Chennai bowlers. Due to which Rajasthan got a chance to start strongly. Dhoni might have come under pressure from this explosive innings as he decided to take DRS against Yashasvi Jaiswal.
