Shahid Afridi, also known as “Boom Boom Afridi”, is a former Pakistani cricketer, regarded as one of the most dynamic all-rounders in the history of the game. Afridi is widely known for his explosive batting, clever leg-spin bowling and excellent fielding skills.
Shahid Afridi was born on 1 March 1980 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Afridi’s father, Sahabzada Fazal-ur-Rehman, was a respected figure in the political sphere of Pakistan.
Brought up in a cricket loving family, Afridi started playing cricket at an early age. Afridi’s talent was immediately noticed and he started receiving offers to play cricket at the professional level.
Afridi made his debut for the Pakistan cricket team in 1996 at the age of just 16. In his very first innings, Afridi scored a blistering 37-ball century against Sri Lanka, which was then the fastest century in ODI history. Afridi’s innings was a spectacular display of power-hitting, and it immediately made him a household name in Pakistan and around the world.
Afridi went on to play for Pakistan for over two decades, during which he established himself as one of the most exciting cricketers of his generation.
Afridi was known for his aggressive batting style, which often saw him hitting sixes and fours at will. Afridi was also a useful leg-spinner who could take wickets and reduce runs. Afridi was also a brilliant fielder who could run out batsmen from impossible angles.
