After a promising start to the season, Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their consecutive winning streak as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets in an IPL 2023 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Rohit Sharma, who came on as an impact substitute in the chase of 186, provided Mumbai with a strong start with Ishan Kishan being the attacking duo.

The pair put on 65 together, before Suyash Sharma removed Rohit for 20 (13). Varun Chakravarthy was dismissed for 58 (25) by a yorker and soon after that Ishan was also dismissed. Mumbai kept going ahead thanks to Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma, who put on 60 runs for the third wicket together to seal the win in their favour.

Mumbai completed the run chase with 2.2 overs to spare thanks to Tim David’s unbeaten 24 off 13 balls. Venkatesh Iyer had earlier scored his maiden IPL hundred before getting dismissed for 104 off 51 balls. After KKR dismissed Jagadeesan for zero, he walked up to the plate.

He, however, continued to play aggressively, bringing up his half-century in 23 balls and reaching triple digits in 49. But KKR struggled in the last overs, scoring just 45 runs in the last five overs.
