Shreyas Iyer is an Indian cricketer who has made a name for himself in both domestic and international cricket. Born on 6 December 1994 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, he is a right-handed middle-order batsman and occasional off-spin bowler.
Early life and domestic career: (DOMESTIC CARRIER)
Iyer started playing cricket at the age of 12 and joined the Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Mumbai.

He represented Mumbai in the Under-14 and Under-16 categories before making his debut for the Under-19 team. In 2014, he was selected for the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad and made his first-class debut against Jammu and Kashmir.

In his debut season, Iyer scored 809 runs in nine matches, including two centuries and six half-centuries. His impressive performance helped Mumbai win the Ranji Trophy that season.

The following season, he scored 1,321 runs in 11 matches at an average of 73.38, including four centuries and seven half-centuries. He was the season’s top run-scorer and helped Mumbai reach the final, where they lost to Gujarat.
International Career: (INTERNATIONAL CARRIER)
Iyer made his international debut for India in November 2017 in a T20I match against New Zealand. He scored 23 runs in 21 balls in that match. In his second T20I, he scored 24 off 20 balls against Sri Lanka.

Iyer made his ODI debut for India in December 2017 against Sri Lanka. In his second ODI, he scored his maiden century, scoring 108 runs from 120 balls against the same opposition.

He became the third Indian batsman to score a century in his debut year in ODI cricket.
In 2019, Iyer was named the captain of the Delhi Capitals team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He led the team to the playoffs for the first time in seven years, where they lost to the Chennai Super Kings in the Eliminator.

In 2020, Iyer led Delhi Capitals to their first IPL final. He scored 519 runs in 17 matches at an average of 34.60 and a strike rate of 123.27.

Although his team lost to Mumbai Indians in the final, Iyer’s captaincy and batting performances were praised by fans and experts.
Injury and return:
In March 2021, Iyer suffered a shoulder injury during the first ODI against England and was ruled out of the rest of the series.

He underwent surgery and was expected to be out of action for several months. However, he made a remarkable comeback in the second half of the IPL 2021 season, playing for the Delhi Capitals.
In his first match, Iyer scored an unbeaten 47 off 28 balls to help Delhi Capitals chase down a target of 155 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He continued to impress with his batting performances and helped Delhi Capitals reach the playoffs.
